Portfolio’s story begins in 1989, when founder Steve Burke resolved to start a new company with a new way of doing business. While delivering the unfortunate news about the failure of their current carrier to a longtime customer, instead of being upset, the customer had simply asked, “What’s next?” This revelation inspired Steve to build Portfolio into a relentlessly innovative company that succeeds only when our customers succeed.

In 1995, Kelly Price was getting her own idea off the ground. She had found the management of an auto group’s products and programs needlessly complicated. She knew there had to be a better way, and the dealer challenged her to figure it out. One result was Warranty Forever, the industry’s preeminent limited lifetime program and the catalyst for the launch of her own company, National Automotive Experts and NWAN.

Portfolio acquired NWAN, Inc. in 2020, joining two businesses dedicated to a world-class customer service experience. Our shared history includes 18 Dealers’ Choice Awards, workplace awards for each of its California, Texas and Ohio offices, and a landmark IRS judgment that altered the course of the auto, RV and powersports retail and finance industries.
